Plantain lanceolate also known as narrow-leaved 
plantain, lanceolata, from Latin (Plantago lanceolata L.) - it is 
a species of perennial belonging to the plantain family. 

It grows wild in much of Europe, North Africa and West Asia. 
As a dragged species, it also entered North, Central
and South America, Hawaii, Australia and Madagascar.

Plantain leaves contain large amounts of mucus 
compounds (up to 10%), tannins, iridoid components, 
tannins, avonoids, organic acids, carotene, as well 
as vitamins and minerals.

Plantain lanceolate has an anti-inflammatory effect on 
the mucosa of the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal 
tract. It improves blood clotting and seals blood vessels.
Accelerates the healing of wounds and skin irritations, 
soothes coughs, has an expectorant effect. It also helps
in the treatment of the upper respiratory tract, gastric
ulcer and duodenal ulcer, including diarrhea. 

Decoctions of leaves are used externally to wash 
the eyes in conjunctivitis and eyelid inflammation.

Studies have also shown the anti-cancer effect of 
plantain leaf extracts, as they produce interferon 
and antibodies against viral antigens.
