St. John's Wort - from the Latin Hypericum L., belongs to the St. John's wort family. It occurs mainly in temperate climates and in the higher parts of the tropics. It occurs both in rocky places and in forests, meadows and wetlands. There are 8 species in Poland, and the most popular is St. John's wort. It is the best-known medicinal plant and is readily used in herbal medicine.

The raw material is dried inflorescences called St. John's wort (Hyperici herba). It contains dye hypericin, pseudohipericin, hyperforin, flavonoids, hyperoside, tannins, as well as vitamins A and C and essential oil.

St. John's wort dry extract reduces the symptoms of mild depression. It has an anti-anxiety effect and helps with insomnia. It is also helpful in preventing migraines.

On the other hand, water extract from St. John's wort has a choleretic, choleretic effect, stimulates digestion, has anti-inflammatory and disinfecting properties.

St. John's wort is often used to treat vitiligo.
